Do you ever find yourself in the freeze mode? You know, excited but hesitant, motivated but unsure. Well that’s how I’ve felt about my writing, and I want to tell you why.
In my mind, I’m an accountant. That’s what I received my education and training in. That’s what I’ve done for work for the last 20-ish years. It’s even fun for me to sit down at my computer and work on the budget. Planning. Preparing. Putting things in order.
So the thought of jumping into this new adventure of writing seems very impractical and a little spontaneous. And I am not good at spontaneous. But in reality, it’s been a slow and steady passion growing in my heart over the last decade, lit up by life!
Accountant turned Author. An unlikely progression. And no, I will not be writing books about debits & credits, taxable income & deductions, Schedule C vs. S-Corp… blah, blah, blah. Boring! And no, I’m not leaving my first love of accounting. But I am trying to be obedient to the ideas God has put on my heart and in my thoughts.
I have a list of book ideas, and ways to share God’s hope and love with others. I’ve started writing a couple, moved others to the backburner. Some are fiction, some are nonfiction. But all these dreams of books to come remain dreams until I do something to share my ideas with YOU!
And this is what leads me to the question, To Click or Not to Click? That little blue “Publish” button can be very intimidating for a perfectionist like me. My accountant brain prefers to check, double check and triple check before completing anything. Even in this moment, the anticipation of publishing this blog post makes my nerves jitter just a little. But I have to start somewhere!
Fun fact – I’m one of those tissue paper savers. So anytime a gift bag is received, I like to refold the tissue paper in those neat, pre-established fold lines, bringing order to what was just chaos moments prior. As much as I like to imagine my writing journey unfolding smoothly and delicately as I would unfold valuable gift-tissue, I’m pretty sure it will look more like my sons ripping open presents, tearing the tissue and even destroying the gift bags. (My boys have not learned the term, “gentle” yet. But we’re working on it! Lord, help me raise GENTLEmen for your kingdom!)
So I’m going to do it! I’m going to let you all in to watch (and read) my writing passion unfold. I’m going to start by clicking that little blue button. I’m even going to be so brave to not even proofread this post before clicking! GASP!!!
But you know what? It’s okay! It is healthy to make mistakes and learn from them. Improve as you go. Just as God welcomes us as we are, I don’t need to have my writing all together before I share it with you. I hope that this page can be a way to interact with my readers… but in order to have readers, I need to first have writings for readers to read! So here you go. I hope you enjoy and are encouraged!
Won’t you be my reader? (to the tune of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood)
Let’s talk!
