I love to make things and grow things, which was the inspiration for Stacia Rae Creates! Everything including books, knit hats, headbands, scarves, blankets, garden vegetables, raised garden boxes…and my favorite…I’ve loved growing babies! I’m a mother of four and life is often in overdrive. My knitting and gardening help me unwind and slow down. And I love the opportunity to help others with the talents God’s given me.
Growing food in my backyard is another hobby, and it helps keep my hungry, hungry hippos fed! I love starting plants from seed and watching them mature into delicious, healthy food that my people enjoy consuming! It’s my favorite to see the first sprout break through the soil, bringing with it excitement for the season to come! And then to watch my boys harvest the fruits and veggies straight to their mouths from the vine. A joy that will never get old.
My enjoyment of knitting started back in my teens when my grandma showed me how. It wasn’t until my thirties that I moved on from scarves and blankets, or anything square, to hats and headbands. It’s not uncommon to catch me studying a cute pattern to figure it out or design something similar, which is where my love of numbers comes in. Now, I love to knit because it helps me rest and keep calm in my world of noisy, chaotic boys…5 of them to be exact – one husband and four sons!
If you haven’t noticed a trend, I love helping others. So when I found that I could turn my hobbies into something that benefits others, it fueled my passion even more! Knits ‘n Novels is the name of my Etsy shop. It makes me think of curling up to read a good book when you want to stay warm and safe, out of the cold. I knit warm, cozy things and write books. It just made sense to me to combine the two!
Last year I was encouraged by a friend to start selling the hats I knit, which gave me an idea. I decided to sell two items for the price of one. For every knit item I sell, I will make a second one to donate to a child through the organization Operation Christmas Child. This has become a special way to give more and share more of my heart with children who don’t have some of the privileges we often take for granted, like Christmas gifts.
All this talk of knitting makes me want to go grab my needles and yarn and snuggle with the kids for a movie. The current movie selection, that has basically been on repeat this entire weekend, is Yes Day. The kids think it’s hysterical and it’s so relatable for this mom. Uh-oh! Writing ideas from the movie are starting to swarm my brain. That’s it. It’s been decided. I’ll do a little more writing, and then my knitting. All in a day of relaxing on this sabbath Sunday!
