What does your office look like?
On days like today, I look forward to a quiet living room, window blinds open, work spread out on my desk in front of me, several hours of concentrated focus ahead of me. And yet, it is still just too quiet.
Having had years in the bricks-and-mortar office with my fellow Accountants, HR Directors, Sales & Marketing reps, these work-from-home years can get incredibly lonely for this mild extravert. (Ha! Did you see what I did there? I love a good joke…there is no such “mild” when describing my personality. Have you met me?!)
As my husband likes to remind me, I’ve got Little Mermaid Syndrome – “I wanna be where the people are 🎶🧜♀️”
So being by myself “at the office” isn’t what fuels me. There are definitely more advantages now that the boys are back in school; however, the atmosphere and voices and laughter with people around me while I work is what I miss. (The volume, whines and name-calling of my children, regularly begging me for more food doesn’t quite have the same effect.😳🤪)
I know that there are many work-at-home moms like me out there, on the other side of your computer screen, missing the days of adult interaction and company. So before I jump in to my debits and credits, deductions and tax breaks, I just wanted to let you know that YOU are my co-workers this morning. We can just pretend this is our two minute conversation by the water cooler, in the break room waiting for our coffee Keurig to turn into a steaming mug of caffeinated energy!
Let’s do this thing called the-life-of-a-responsible-adult-who-makes-daily-sacrifices-out-of-love-for-our-families! Clink! (the sound of our coffee mugs “cheers-ing”) 😁☕🤓
